Web 2.0

This class has been my first time really thinking about Web 2.0 in and of itself. Yeah, I have a Facebook which doesn’t get used much, and yeah, sometimes I see what hilarious things celebrities are saying on Twitter. And of course I’m familiar with Wikipedia. But now I’m thinking about the reasons for Web 2.0 and its potential uses. The primary distinction is increased communication and collaboration between users. Everyone can comment on a blog, or edit a wiki, or post links for their friends. This is great in general, and can be particularly useful for libraries. They can use these tools to communicate with patrons in much wider varieties of ways. A different type of relationship with users can be formed and new services can be provided, branching out in new directions. Web 2.0 has a lot of potential for libraries.
